A FL 1 V St. Colmcilles

Dunshaughlin 3-8 St. Colmcilles 1-13
A volleyed goal in the dying seconds of the game that wouldn’t be out of place in the World Cup gave Dunshaughlin the narrowest of victories against St. Colmcilles. In a crowded goalmouth Ben Duggan was the first to react to Oisín Foley’s sideline ball when he drove it to the roof of the net from close range. Duggan opened and closed his account with a goal, as he added to Eric Casserley’s first minute point with a rasper two minutes later after a flowing move.

Dunshaughlin dominated for long periods of the opening half with Cian Gallogly hitting two points from frees, Tadhg Ó Dushláine matching him with one from play and another from a free and Wes Goodwin producing a fine long range effort late in the half. Colmcilles finished the half with three points in a row and dominated much of the second period, with James Conlon proving hard to handle. Caoimhín King’s expert positioning and interceptions frustrated numerous Colmcilles attacks in the first half but his absence for the second due to an injury meant the Cilles got more joy up front as they pressed forward. A fine goal from Tadhg O Dúshláine at the end of another bout of good combination play seemed to put Dunshaughlin in the driving seat but three points in a row followed by a Conlon goal gave the Cilles the initiative. With time running out the Black and Ambers fought doggedly for possession all over the field, and drove forward at every opportunity as the opponents reverted to a defensive formation. Ó Dushláine pulled one back with a free and two more opportunities went astray before Ben Duggan’s crisp volley snatched victory by the minimum margin. The two points assures the Black and Ambers of Division 1 football for the coming year.
