ACFL DIV 1 Dunshaughlin V Don/Ashbourne

Dunshaughlin was no place for the faint hearted on Sunday morning where spectators were treated to a heated contest in bitterly cold conditions. Donaghmore-Ashbourne made the early running as the home side’s shooting was wayward, and approaching half time had 1-3 on the scoreboard to a single Tadhg Ó Dúshláine point. Just before the break Ó Dúshláine knocked over another brace to give Dunshaughlin some reward for their efforts and leave them a goal in arrears. Even though Donaghmore-Ashbourne were reduced to fourteen men they remained in contention during the early part of the second half as the teams exchanged a point each. The Black and Ambers finally turned on the style in the concluding stages with a Tommy Johnson goal bringing the sides level. That gave the Black and Ambers the scent of victory and was followed by a great point from long distance by Matthew Moyles, before Johnson knocked over another to give Dunshaughlin a two point advantage. The defence coped capably with Donaghmore-Ashbourne’s late efforts and held on to open their league campaign with a merited victory.
