B FL Div 5

Dunshaughlin 1-16 Cortown 2-13

The Dunshaughlin Division 5 team recorded its first point when drawing with Cortown after a tough, hard fought game. The game was marred by a shoulder injury to defender Luke McCarthy and all of the panel and everyone in the club wish Luke a speedy recovery.

Cortown were fastest out of the blocks and led by 0-4 to 0-1 early in the game and even though points from Trevor Dowd and Cormac Curtin reduced the deficit Cortown went on another point scoring spree, adding four before Dunshaughlin dominated coming up to half time. Points by Paul Gilsenan, Curtin, Shane Claire and Cathal McCormack and a well-struck Trevor Dowd penalty reduced the deficit to two points at the break.

Dunshaughlin hit five unanswered points, all from frees, midway through the second half as the home side resorted to fouling but the concession of a penalty brought Cortown level in the closing stages. The game continued until the 38th minute due to Luke’s injury and Dunshaughlin twice took the lead only for Cortown to draw level on both occasions. In a game either side could have won a draw was probably a fair result.
