Dunshaughlin V Na Fianna

Dunshaughlin 1-11

Na Fianna 1-11

Dunshaughlin will be left wondering how they didn’t win this Senior Championship encounter played in a balmy Summerhill on Sunday evening. In an entertaining match, Dunshaughlin took the lead after 5 minutes. Cathal O’Dwyer finished to the net after excellent play from Adam Kealy. Anthony Moyles’ men then led until the 57th minute when Ethan Devine struck 1-1 and it looked like Na Fianna had stolen the game. To their credit Dunshaughlin never died and responded through an excellent score from Niall Murphy to tie the match with the last kick of the game.

Dunshaughlin defended tenaciously throughout the hour. Na Fianna had nothing easy. Caoimhin King and Michael Ahern were excellent at the heart of the defence. Murphy drove forward to kick four superb points and he collected the Waterford Crystal vase after the match. Young Jack Hetherington and Adam Kealy worked tirelessly and did veteran Ray Maloney. When Maloney was winning the 3 in a row, Hetherington and Kealy were in nappies, being fed their breakfast while watching Teletubbies. Maloney was unlucky not to goal in the second half. His shot crashing against the crossbar. Dunshaughlin were left to rue some wayward shooting. O’Dwyer kicked two poor wides late on and with better handling Niall Byrne could have been through for a goal after excellent play from heartthrob Tadgh Delaney.

In the end Dunshaughlin’s sheer determination saw them fight back to get the equaliser. An excellent catch by former Clare footballer Michael Ahern set the move in motion that led to Murphy splitting the posts. Next up is the local derby against neighbours Ratoath.
