Dunshaughlin V Ratoath

Dunshaughlin 0-08

Ratoath 2-10

In horrendous conditions played in Ashbourne on Monday night, Ratoath came out on top in this local derby. Dunshaughlin led early on through a free from Cathal O’Dwyer but Ratoath got on top and were never headed for the remainder of the hour.

Torrential rain meant handling was difficult for both teams but Ratoath appeared to adapt a little better than Dunshaughlin. The game proved to be a physical encounter with both teams getting stuck in. Dunshaughlin did cut through the Ratoath defence and David Dunne had a goal effort blocked, albeit from an acute angle. Frees kept Dunshaughlin in touch as Ratoath’s indiscipline cost them in the first half. Two points separated the sides at the break.

Ratoath began brightest in the second half. As the rain continued to pour and the floodlights came on the game turned in the space of 4 minutes with two quick Ratoath goals. Dunshaughlin will be disappointed with these goals and they could have been prevented. It was only in the last ten minutes that Dunshaughlin drove forward. Niall Murphy rampaged up the pitch on many of his trademark runs. Tadhg Delaney, Cathal O’Dwyer and Trevor Dowd had goal bound efforts blocked tenaciously. Fergus Toolan scored an excellent fisted score but Dunshaughlin just couldn’t get the goal the so badly needed and Ratoath ran out impressive 8 point winners.
