Dunshaughlin V Simonstown

Dunshaughlin 0-14

Simonstown 0-14

What an entertaining game we had in Dunshaughlin yesterday evening as Anthony Moyles’ men scored three late points to snatch a well deserved draw with Simonstown. Played on a gorgeous Spring day a fine crowd turned out and they will have travelled home happy after this open game of football. Tossie’s team of groundsmen had the pitch looking perfect for the evening.

Dunshaughlin started well with Shane Gallogly and Tadgh O’Dushlaine kicking some good scores. Ratoath native Ray Maloney started his first game for Dunshaughlin in 6 months but he was up and down the field in the first half with his trademark defence splitting runs. Ben Duggan was a happy man to have Maloney back alongside him in midfield. O’Dushlaine was showing his usual good league form with some excellent points. Heart throb O’Dushlaine fresh from purchasing a BMW in Westmeath yesterday had a pep in his step all afternoon and it showed on the field. O’Dushlaine, the first man to complete Tinder, tried to enter ‘First Dates’ but apparently he was too good looking and they refused him. Cian Gallogly was showing fine form inside and tormented the Simonstown defence with his pace.

At the back Oisin Foley, the fastest kid alive, was having a superb outing at corner back. He launched many attacks from the back. Dunshaughlin worked hard around the middle with Tommy Johnson, Josh Wall and craft beer marketing guru Ben Duggan impressing. Some excellent scores were kicked by both sides but it looked as if Simonstown may stretch their lead in the second half and go on to win the game. Twice the Navan side went three points clear but the home side wouldn’t give in. The impact from the Dunshaughlin bench was impressive with Matthew Moyles, Eric Casserly, Wes Goodwin, Andy Lenihan, plus older guys Cathal O’Dwyer and John Crimmins making a huge impression.
