Dunshaughlin V Simonstown

Three in a row chasing Simonstown played Dunshauglin in the first round of the senior football championship at a wet Pairc Tailteann on Sunday afternoon.

The first half was very tight with both teams exchanging scores throughout. Dunshaughlin started brightest with 3 unanswered points in the opening 5 minutes from the two Galloglys – Shane and Cian and an excellent point from Tadhg O’Dushlaine. However Simonstown then clicked into gear and kicked some good scores from Sean Tobin and Padraig McKeever.

They key score of the first half was a goal from Shane Barry.  However, Dunshauglin responded with 3 scores from play in a 7 minute period which left the score tied. Dunshaughlin lost Josh Wall to an arm injury mid way through the first half.

With the rain coming down heavily, Simonstown began the second half with a renewed sense of purpose and quickly scored 2 goals which changed the complexion of the game and left Dunshaughlin playing catch up. Dunshaughlin were honest throughout and worked hard but they couldn’t get back into the game. The fourth goal killed the game off and Simonstown ran out 10 point winners.
