Dunshaughlin V St Colmcilles

After a nail biting finish, Dunshaughlin came out on top by the narrowest of margins thanks to a Niall Byrne point. With less than 10 minutes remaining Dunshaughlin had 4 goal efforts in the space of a frantic 12 seconds. They were all denied by the St Colmcilles rear guard. It looked like it wouldn’t be our day. The game ebbed and flowed throughout. The physically stronger seaside club led in the first half despite playing against a stiff breeze. However two goals in the first half really helped Dunshaughlin. Killian Harte converted the rebound from his own penalty which had been saved. Just before the break a free from 40m deceived the Colmcilles goalkeeper and ended up in the net.

After the break St Colmcilles took the lead and it looked like they would go on to win the match. However big displays from David Dunne, Ron Geraghty, Niall Byrne and substitute Neil Byrne boosted Dunshaughlin. The full back line did very well too with Josh Wall impressing. Paddy Maher had a good outing at half back. His powerful running set up many attacks. It was bravery, commitment and heart that won the day for Dunshaughlin. It was also great to see Danny Quinn back in action. Starting at 14, Quinn played a more roving role in the second half and his experience was vital. Dunshaughlin can be happy with their hard fought win as they march onto a semi final.
