JFC: Dunshaughlin 3-14 Summerhill 1-13

Despite conceding a goal in the first minute Dunshaughlin went on to dominate the first half of this Junior Championship game against Summerhill and took an interval lead of 3-9 to 1-4 to the dressing room. The highlight was a sweeping move that saw youthful full-back Kenny McTigue appear in the Summerhill penalty area to palm the ball to the net in the 30th minute. Scores were harder come by against the wind in the second half but a brace of points by James Rattigan, another pair by centre back turned full forward Eoin Hagarty and a superb long range effort by sub Paul Briody kept the scoreboard ticking over and the Black and Ambers were deserving winners at the final whistle.

A high work rate and good team work were crucial factors throughout. James Rattigan led the scoring with 2-4, senior team manager Anthony Moyles put his name to three points and Trevor Dowd scored two. Paddy Maher’s pace contributed to a number of scores while Ciarán Hoary and Cillian Hart were always in the thick of the action, winning turnovers and setting up attacks.

Dunshaughlin’s next out is against Navan O Mahonys in Cortown on Friday at 7;15.
