Leinster League Division 2 semi-final

IMG_0789Seventeen brave and courageous lads from the parish of Dunshaughlin travelled to Moorefield in Kildare this morning and togged out in atrocious conditions for an under 15 Leinster league division 2 semi-final. An 8:30 pitch inspection had surprisingly given the all clear to play.

Considering Dunshaughlin had a relatively strong panel travelling down to the Curragh it was expected it would be a close competitive game. However the boys in the Black and Amber never got going in the cold, muck and the rain. They found themselves 2 goals and 2 points behind after 6 minutes. Moorefield’s big men found the conditions more to their advantage, totally dominating the first half and the Kildare boys went in leading 4-11 to 1-3 at half time, Conor Gray (0-3) and Jack Harrington with a goal the scorers for Dunshaughlin.

Dunshaughlin were never going to come back and win the game but in a much more competitive 2nd half they scored 1-4 to Morrefield’s 1-7. Dunshaughlin’s second half scorers were Jack Harrington (1-0), Ruairi Kinsella (0-2) and John McDonagh & Conor Gray a point each.

So although it was probably the biggest defeat this group of lads have had to take since they came together at under 8 there is no doubt they will bounce back stronger than ever, it was just one of those rare days when nothing went right but all credit goes to those 17 lads, many who were in sheer agony at the end of the game having played their hearts out in conditions I never witnessed a GAA game played in before. Dunshaughlin GAA  are inspired to see such commitment for the club from this bunch of lads.
