Under 17 Summer League Group C, Final
Tuesday 30th July 2019 at 7:30pm in Dunshaughlin.

Full Time:   Dunshaughlin: 1-11 (14)   O’ Mahony’s 3-10 (19)
Half Time: Dunshaughlin: 0-5           O’ Mahony’s 2-7 (13)

A wet evening in Dunshaughlin was the setting for the Summer League Group C final where the trophy was presented to Navan O’ Mahony’s captain Evan Brady by Frank Gallogly after a game where the hosts second half comeback came up short.

Dunshaughlin lined out in their new Jerseys sponsored by Kealy Construction. Both teams had met only three weeks earlier in the league when Dunshaughlin led for almost all the game and won by four points. The pattern of this game was almost totally opposite where Dunshaughlin trailed for nearly all the game and eventually lost by five points. With the time of year and holidays, there were plenty of changes in personnel and only nine of the Dunshaughlin’s players that started last time started in the final.

Dunshaughlin only managed to score five points in the first half, the opening three points coming from Ruairi Kinsella (2f) followed by 2 points from substitute Aaron Murphy. Other opportunities were not taken, either going wide or dropping into the goalie’s hands.

While scores were hard to come by for Dunshaughlin, at the other end of the field O’ Mahony’s were finding scores much easier to come by and punished Dunshaughlin with two soft goals.

Dunshaughlin trailed by 8 points at the break and scored the first point of the 2nd half but fell further behind when the visitors scored a third goal from a fifty. Dunshaughlin dug deep, worked hard to get back into the game and reduced the deficit from 10 points at one stage back to four. Dunshaughlin got hope when Daragh Byrne scored a goal with less than 10 minutes left. Ultimately the gap was too big and O’ Mahony’s held on to win by five points.

Dunshaughlin point scorer’s in the 2nd half were substitute John McDonagh (0-4), Murphy & Kinsella (f) one point each.

The Summer League was useful for this squad as they prepare for the Minor Championship and as in every other game in the league all players who togged out played a part in the game.
