U13 Leinster League Division 2

Dunshaughlin U 13 Boys travelled down the M4 to Mullingar for their opening game of the U 13 Cross County Leinster league and their first game of 2018. Mullingar Shamrocks were our hosts and had won their opening round 1 game in this league. We had a total of 12 players that travelled so every player got an hour of football. Underfoot conditions were heavy and the wet pitch made it difficult for both teams to play with any sort of fluency. Shamrocks started brightly and got an early goal but Dunshaughlin battled and put over a couple of points to stay in touch. It was tough going for the players as Shamrocks upped their game and got in for a few goals towards the end of the 1st half. After the half time break, a quick chat and a bit of re grouping saw the second half produce a more consistent effort and scores began to go over as Dunshauglin grew in confidence and produced a much better team display. We were unlucky with a couple of goal bound efforts but some good points were taken during this period but Shamrocks always seemed to be able to go down the other end and get a couple of points to stall our momentum. When the referee blew for full time lads were out on their feet with their hard efforts in the heavy going and Shamrocks had ran out easy winners on the scoreboard. There are lots to work on for the next round and fellas will have learned from the experience and will improve from this run out. Solid displays from Fiach Hartigan, Daniel O Brien, Malik Assani Ryan and Saef Saadon drove Dunshaughlin forward with the rest of the team growing in confidence as the game went on.
