dun u17 march 2018Dunshaughlin hosted Donaghmore/Ashbourne in their second game of their U17s league campaign. Dunshaughlin went behind by an early goal from Donaghmore/Ashbourne, scored against the run of play. The home team responded well with three points from Luke Mitchell. Luke McCarthy, Darren Murphy and Mathew Costello also added points. Shane Kennedy was in fine form again but had to be substituted due to an elbow injury, being replaced by Darragh Byrne. Dunshaughlin finished the half a single point behind the visitors.
Donaghmore/Ashbourne scored another goal early in the second half and pushed on to open a lead that could not be overcome despite a second half goal by Luke Mitchell and also a second point for Mathew Costello. Great effort was put in around the middle of the field by Luke Mitchell, Ciaran Mc Carrick, Matthew Costello and Kevin Bawle.
The game was marred when the Donaghmore/Ashbourne full back dragged our corner forward, Darren Murphy to the ground and proceeded to punch him in the face. Our full forward Harry Dunne intervened on Darren’s behalf, resulting in Harry and the Donaghmore/Ashbourne full back seeing red. Darren had to leave the field of play as a result of the injuries received in the incident. Shane Kennedy’s return to the field of play was necessary as he was the only substitute available.
In the end the extra resources Donaghmore/Ashbourne had on the side-line proved a key factor in a game that was played on a very heavy and energy sapping pitch. The campaign will conclude with Dunshaughlin travelling to Dulek/Bellewstown on Monday 19th March
The game finished Dunshaughlin 1-9, Donaghmore/Ashbourne 4-8
