Under 14 Division 3

dun u14 v ultans may 2018

Dunshaughlin U 14  boys travelled to Sean Newman in park in Bohermeen on Thursday evening for this 4th round league match with the newly amalgamated team St. Ultans / Cortown. It was a perfect evening for football and the lads got straight into the warm up to prepare for a must win game to have a chance of making the semi-finals later on.

When the ball was thrown in Dunshaughlin went straight on the attack creating a number of scoring chances but couldn’t raise a white flag with some wayward shooting. The home team put over a couple of points during the first quarter much to the delight of the their supporters against the run of play. Thomas Boyle was able to find the midfield and gain primary possession with the kickouts and after about ten minutes some good passing ended up with Harry O Dwyer finishing to the net from close range. This seemed to settle the team and with most of the possession the visitors were keeping the scoreboard ticking with a strong midfield partnership of Charlie O Connor & Donagh Mc Carrick providing Eoin Reilly, Daniel O Brien, Ryan Robinson, Nevin Power (points) & John Muldoon (goal) with the vital scores to leave Dunshaughlin with a comfortable lead at half time. During the opening half Malik Assani Ryan &  Saef Saadon were brought into the forward line to freshen things up and keep the momentum going. St. Ultans / Cortown though got going in the second half and their opening score was a goal. Their tails were up as they added a point and then Eoin Gorman who now had switched into goals made a fine save and it took a while for the visitors to get back in the game but to their credit and lead from the back by Alex Arkins, Eoin Gorman, Sean Summerville, Fiach Hartigan & Jack Smith the defence got on top again and were providing the midfield with the ball to attack once again. Jamie Golrick was in fine form at left half back and the introduction of Shane Forbes into the inside forward line added pace and accuracy as Dunhaughlin pushed on and got a couple of goals in the last quarter to secure the points and get their first win of this campaign. Its back to the training pitch on Tuesday evening to work at and keep improving this squad.
