Under 16 Division 1 semi-final v Duleek/Bellewstown

Full time :  Dunshaughlin 4-20 (32) Duleek/Bellewstown 2-13 (19)

Half time : Dunshaughlin 4-16 (28) Duleek/Bellewstown 0-4

First off, all the players and management wish our wonderful back Kyle O’ Connor a speedy recovery after his accident in school today. One thing for sure he will lift the spirits of all the other kids in the ward. Looking forward to getting you off the crutches soon and back on the pitch.

Exactly a week after drawing in the final league game of the season Dunshaughlin Under 16  boys played Duleek/Bellewstown in the Division 1 semi-final and at no stage after the first ten minutes did a draw look likely this time as Dunshaughlin were rampant. Dunshaughlin were 2-3 to no score up after 10 minutes and went in leading at half time 4-20 to 0-4. Dunshaughlin dominated every section of the field in that 1st half and the movement, passing, fielding  and score taking was a joy to watch. The first half goals came from Joseph (Joey) Dunne (2), Aaron Murphy & John McDonagh. The point scorers during that 1st half were Murphy (5), Dunne (4) Colm Keane (4) and McDonagh (3). Conor Gray caught many high balls and earned quite a few marks throughout the game. The backs coped very well with most of what came down the field.

Dunshaughlin made some changes at half time which seemed take them out of their groove a bit and slowly the away team pulled back scores. Although the result was never really in any doubt in the 2nd half the management will be looking at reasons why Dunshaughlin appeared to take the foot off the gas a little. Dunshaughlin did create many scoring chances in that 2nd half and but wonderful saves from Duleek/Bellewstown’s goalkeeper and shots off the crossbar and posts kept Dunshaughlin from scoring any goals in the 2nd half.

Dunshaughlin have reached the final which is scheduled for next Wednesday evening at 7:15 pm in Pairc Tailtean, time and date to be confirmed. Well done lads.

The team and management would like to thank all the stewards who volunteered their time for this evening’s game and the ground staff who had the pitch in excellent condition.
