Under 16 League Division 2 Semi-final

Under 16 Spring League Division 2, Semi-final
Wednesday May 16th 2018 at 7:15pm in Simonstown.
Full Time: Simonstown 1-16 Dunshaughlin: 2-6
Half Time: Simonstown 1-7 Dunshaughlin: 0-6

A nice evening for football but unfortunately this fixture was not given the respect it deserved as it was played on the poor standard front pitch in Simonstown as it clashed with a senior ladies game.
Dunshaughlin went into this semi final on the back of a good run of three victories in a row. Simonstown had the slight upper hand in the 1st half and the half time scoreline (1-7 to 0-6)reflected the pattern of the game. The Simonstown goal mid way through the half put some daylight between the teams. Despite Dunshaughlin working extremely hard they just could not rein in Simonstown. Missed goal and point opporntunities did not help our cause. Our scorers in the opening half were Ruairi Kinsella (0-4, 2f), Joseph Dunne (0-1) and Conor Gray (0-1).
Although Shane Kennedy scored two 2nd half goals for Dunshaughlin and everybody on the team worked really hard right up to the final whistle it was not to be their day. The rub of luck never came our way and that was never as evident when midway through the 2nd half Dunshaughlin were reduced to 14 players.
However this bunch of lads can be proud of the achievements, of not only reaching the semi-final but even more so with the improvement of all players as the league went on. The great work been done by Seamus Traynor (manager), Paul Nestor (coach), Andy Byrne & Derry McCool (selectors) is very evident in the boys performance.
This group will be back in action for the under 16 Summer League.
