Under 16 Spring League Div 2

Under 16 Spring League Division 2, Friday 27th April 2018 at 7:15pm in Dunshaughlin.

Full Time:  Dunshaughlin: 3-15 (24)    St. Oliver’s : 3-9

Half Time:   Dunshaughlin: 1-9    St. Oliver’s  : 3-9 (18)

St Oliver’s an amalgamation of three north Meath clubs made the long journey to Dunshaughlin on Friday evening and came away empty handed. Dunshaughlin took control of the game early on and had notched  up 1-4 before St. Oliver’s got their first score in the 15th minute. Dunshaughlin continued to play really well for almost all of the 1st half and had built up a 10 point lead with 2 minutes to go before the break. However some poor defending allowed St. Oliver’s score 1-1 in those final minutes to leave it 1-9 to 1-3 in favour of Dunshaughlin at the break. In that opening half there was some fantastic passages of play from the boys in Black and Amber with Ruairi Kinsella, Ciaran McCarrick and Conor Gray (before going off with a hand injury) playing particularly well. The only Dunshaughlin goal of the 1st half was struck by Ciaran McCarrick.

The visitors opened the 2nd half strongly with 2 well taken points from play and for long periods in that 2nd half looked like they might cause an upset as Dunshaughlin seemed to lose their rhythm and concede easy scores. Infact Oliver’s got back to within one point and it was only with 5 minutes to go when Ruairi Kinsella struck his 2nd goal of the half for the home team that local supporters could sigh a relief.
