Under 16 Spring League Division 2

Under 16 Spring League Division 2, Round 4 Tuesday 17th April 2018 at 7:00pm in Dunshaughlin.

Full Time:   Dunshaughlin: 2-9 (15)   Dunboyne : 0-9

Half Time:   Dunshaughlin: 1-3         Dunboyne: 0-5
The foundations for this victory were laid in the first half. Although Dunshaughlin played into a strong wind they still went in leading 1-3 to 0-5 at half time. During that opening period Dunshaughlin worked hard to break down the Dunboyne attacks and put together some great passing movements to take their own scores. Daragh Byrne at right corner forward opened the scoring with a beautiful point from play. Joseph Dunne followed up with a point from a free to leave Dunshaughlin leading by 2. Dunboyne scored the next four points to lead by double scores with 22 minutes gone. Dunshaughlin put together a great move with the final ball into corner forward Cillian Mc Cool who rounded the keeper and struck the ball to the back of the net. Both teams had a point each before the end of the half. The referee had Dunshaughlin leading by 2 points when in reality it was only 1. Sean Walsh playing in goal was a vital cog in the first half performance with his well placed kickouts.

The 2nd half started the same way as the 1st, Daragh Byrne scored a point from play to leave 2 between the teams but Dunboyne were not going down easy and by the 12th minute were on level terms having kicked fine 2 points against the wind. Dunshaughlin were finding it hard to judge the strength of the wind and in a few instances kicked the ball too long. Hard working corner forward Aiden Fraher’s point steadied the ship and Joseph Dunne put Dunshaughlin further ahead, first with a point from play and followed up with a pointed free. Dunboyne were staying in touch but a goal from Dunne put the home team in the driving seat with less than 10 minutes to go. Shane Kennedy added to the Dunshaughlin tally with a well taken free and the final Dunshaughlin point of the night was a splendid point from Cian McLaughlin. The defence remained solid throughout and didn’t allow Dunboyne to get even one shot on goal the whole game. Dunshaughlin were well worth their 6 point victory and there was a lot of positives to take from this outing.

Dunshaughlin having played three games, have won two and lost one.
