Under 19 Final Division 2

Dunshaughlin U19’s were on the wrong side of a scoreline of 1-14 to 0-09 against Simonstown last night in the under 19 final. Simonstown were worthy winners as they made full advantage of the extra man after Dunshaughlin were reduced to 14 players when the match was evenly poised at 6 points a piece and 29 mins on the clock. From the resulting free Simonstown worked the ball down the pitch and were awarded a penalty just on the stroke of half time which they converted to leave it 1-06 to 0-06 at half time.

Success is not final, Loss is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts and in the second half these young men showed a courage and attitude that defied belief. They worked tirelessly for each other with and without the ball in warm humid conditions and maybe just maybe if they had taken two or three of the chances they created in the first few minutes of the second half the seed of doubt might have started to grow in the Simonstown players minds.

Simonstown took vital points at vital times which always kept Dunshaughlin at arms length and unfortunately were not able to close the gap.

The club and mentors know that the future of the club is looking good with the majority of this group stepping up to the adult teams both Senior and Junior.

The players and mentors of the Under 19 panel would like to wish both Matthew and Luke who are part of the Under 19 panel all the best in the Leinster Final against Kildare this weekend.
