Strictly Come Dancing

Congratulations to Fr. Colm Browne and Martina Toher who clinched victory in Dunshaughlin GAA’s “Strictly Come Dancing” on Saturday night. In what was a hugely enjoyable evening, Fr. Colm and Martina had the crowd on their feet with their variation of the “Jive”. Many thanks to all the dancers for their highly entertaining performances on the night and their dedication over the last 8 weeks. A Big Thank you also to our MC Brendan Cummins and our four judges – Deirdre nì Luanaigh, Paul Carberry, Dudley Farrell and Frank McNamara.

One of the participants Nuala Doyle has penned a poem to mark the night

Dunshaughlin GAA - Dancing Strictly

The GAA in Dunshaughlin came up with a fundraising plan
Lets get our lads out to work and into that Strictly Come Dance.
The wheels were set in Locomotion and recruits turned up on the night
Not a clue did we have of what was expected, but to the challenge we clung on tight.

Aisling Toher our choreographer, assessing our ability to dance
The boys in a straight line facing the girls, it was like the Ballroom of Romance.
She pushed all the buttons and boundaries, soon had us eating out of her hand
In 6 weeks we became her family – Aisling mother to 24, that was not what she’d planned.

It seemed like no time ‘til we had all our steps,
we were shimmying, New Yorking and lifting
Hardly one of us without an ache or pain, a support or a muscle injury
But we were all hooked from the start and gave it our best, our big night quickly advancing
To give our locals a treat, we would strut our stuff, and show them our Dirty Dancing.

The big night came around so fast the village was in overdrive,
The tickets were sold, the house would be full for The Cha Cha, The Salsa and The Jive
The committee were working like beavers to put the final touches to the night
The dancers were in the dressing room, praying we wouldn’t get stage fright.

On the big screen in the Green Room we could see all our supporters arrive
Meeting and chatting with excitement, community spirit was very much alive
Creating an atmosphere we’ll never forget, a village bursting with pride
We wouldn’t let down the GAA, so best foot forward to that floor we would glide
Not put off by our judges we were so well prepared for the furore
Enjoyment for all was our final task, and a successful night, who could ask for more.

First up was Emer and Colm Footloose and fancy free then
Jedward and his missus our only married couple to enter the melee
We then saw Padraig and Heidi are you The One That I Want or wha?
Next up was Ceri and Suzie showin’ off their handcuffs and the Jailhouse Rock

Mark and Loretta Starting Something when she called him up from the bar
Lally and Marion - Pretty Woman, what can I say Cha Cha Cha
Cathal stepped it out with Emma earning 2nd place on the night
Ahoy! to Shane and Orla with their costumes whiter than white

Up next was Emmet, the Sex Bomb doing cha cha with the gorgeous Anne
In complete contrast to Sex Bomb we had Martina and Fr. Colm
Don’t Stop Me Now was the title that took them to winning with class
They put so much time into practice, we were sure he’d have to cancel the Mass.

Next give it up Tomasz and Kate doing the Conga, and looking brill
Then finally Arthur and Nuala on the Edge of Glory and enjoying the thrill
We had the best night ever and without a doubt the night was enjoyed by all
Maybe next year Ronan you’ll take up the dance and give up that auld football

A big thank you to our families for their support during our busy schedule
To the locals who turned up on the night and the dancers who lifted the interval
For now we’ll wallow in our memories of the fun, the laughs and may I say
How can we ever thank Aisling our Cheoragrapher and Dunshaughlin GAA.
